Here, From Above

Here, From Above

There's a shattering silence, and then a quiet cacophony of noise; somewhere between the breaking off of who we're becoming from whatever we used to be is a soaring symbol of potential, and the realization that we are now the "anything" that can happen: the incarnate vision of an involving hope.

The Cradle

The Cradle

“The cradle rocks above an abyss, and common sense tells us that our existence is but a brief crack of light between two eternities of darkness."                                                                        - Vladimir Nabokov

The Dilemma

The Dilemma

Who we decide ourselves to be is an integral part of the human experience and our chosen personas are made manifest by outward appearance. Fashions are dictated by trends and time, but the urges to adorn, mark, and clothe ourselves are abidingly human, unique among the plumage, color, and puffed-up pomp so naturally extant among earthly creatures. But strip us down, and we still have our hair: the cherry on top of bodies gone relatively bare, why else has it remained but for show? Whether dyed, tied, plastered or shaved, hair is the first and physical step toward that timeless display of sentient self.

Fear & Autonomy

Fear & Autonomy

Fear surrounds and surmounts the being from all sides - it's a wonder we've the fortitude to rise above and flourish. Then again, we people come armed: the trappings of culture - from superstitions to baubles - give us strengths before the manifold faces of adversity beyond any tusk, tooth, or claw that's evolved to eternity. Our belief systems and accessories define us, but they empower us as well, offering purpose to the wanderer, direction to the lost, and courage to withstand the discomforts of fright.

The Truth Hurts

The Truth Hurts

We're made of strange stuff. Within human psyches, lines are blurred between animal physiology and a mind that makes wonders. Maybe it's those blurry bits of demarcation that make it so easy for us to stomp, butcher, and feast upon the very things we're all of us made of; maybe that's just the way things have always had to be. Either way, the truth often pains when it's staring one straight in the face.
